Whoa! Wait! It's December 1st???

Seriously!? It's REALLY December 1st?

Now, how did that happen??

I hope you are all enjoying the holidays and celebrating with family and friends.

As 2011 soon come to a close, I reflect back on the year and vividly remember many of the year’s moments and tuck them in my mind to remember and cherish for a lifetime. Experiences in life; good, bad or indifferent bring us closer to where we are created to be. All things work together for our overall good. Each day is a gift! That’s why it is called the present, right?

I especially love to remember some of the funny things my kids have said, like.
The Young Man is now 15 years old: “Seriously!? Seriously, Mom!? You’re really gonna wear that? Fine! Just drop me off, but DO NOT.. DO NOT get out of the car! Please!!!”

Baby Girl, my 4 year old, sneaking in the bathroom while I’m in the shower: “(Giggle, giggle) Uh, mom!? (giggle, giggle)… I see your butt hanging out!”

Baby Girl (again), while out at the playground one evening last week: “It’s getting so dark and cloudy out now. I think it’s those people in China doing that! Oh, Mommy, can we go to China? We can take all our family with us!”

X2, my 20 month old girl twin, while pulling at her twin brother’s diaper: “X1 stinks!”

X1, my 20 month old boy twin, very loudly proclaiming in the middle of my oldest son’s basketball game: “Let’s go! Come on! Let’s go!”

Or the things I never imagined I would say:
“NO! Don’t eat that! It’s for the dog!”

“Yes, I certainly would love to hear your pee while you’re on the potty!”

“OK! OK! We’ll listen to Ice, Ice Baby one more time. Then, it’s time for a bath.”

“Oh, no! What the heck is this dried up on my shirt?” 10 minutes after arriving to work.

As my kids grow up, I realize how short my time with them truly is. It’s the little moments like bath time, story time, or morning hugs and kisses that are my cozy, safe place to hide and revive when things in life sometimes seem to overwhelm me.

I sit and watch my children play in their free, unashamed, unreserved way. They don’t concern themselves with the details of who’s watching, what people may think, how they may look or if they are doing it right. They laugh heartily, merrily and fully enjoy whatever it is they are doing, whether it be pulling the toilet tissue off the roll in record time, dumping bath water on the bathroom floor, smearing spaghetti sauce through their hair as if it was hair gel, torturing the dog with multiple bear hugs, dumping the freshly washed and folded clothes all over the floor, or squealing in a high pitch during a basketball game while your oldest son is at the foul line. They fully enjoy the moment of it all! Even when you catch them in mid-act, they usually smile as if to say, “hey, this is fun! Want to join me?”

What happens to that free spirit when we become responsible, law abiding, serious grown-ups!? Who says that as responsible adults, we should give up on playing, dreaming, being fully present, feeling alive and living out loud!?

During this holiday season, allow yourself to dream, to have fun, to tap into your inner child and to truly be present in life and live it fully! Hey, if splashing around in the toilet or drinking your own bath water is your thing, go for it!

“Dance as though no is watching you. Love as though you have never been hurt before. Sing as though no one can hear you. Live as though heaven is on earth.”

Happy Holidays!
